“The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others.”
-Mahatma Gandhi
The above-stated principle of selfless service forms the core of the National Service Scheme (NSS) Unit of Sovarani Memorial College, Jagatballavpur, Howrah. Based on a rural setup, the active volunteers of the NSS unit who are the students of the college, come from varying backgrounds with a common aim for the welfare of the society. The volunteers are the backbone of the unit. Their dedication to the promotion of societal interests and solving societal problems make the activities of the unit successful and enjoyable.
Enrollment in NSS is free. A student from the first and third semesters may get enrolled as an NSS volunteer. Every year, an NSS volunteer has to devote 20 hours of orientation and 100 hours of community service. An NSS volunteer needs to devote a total of 240 hours of social service in two years duration. Apart from the regular activities, a volunteer must undergo a 7-days Special Camping Programme during the entire tenure. On successful completion of the required hours of service, the NSS volunteers are issued a certificate. For more information and details about NSS, click here - https://nss.gov.in/
The NSS unit of the college warmly welcomes students, educators, social workers and well-wishers who would like to join hands with the unit in some way or the other and add value to their own lives and others by providing meaningful service to the community abiding by the motto -
“NOT ME BUT YOU”
